Negative Scanning

Those old negatives sitting in a drawer or shoebox likely hold moments you haven't seen in decades — and they're absolutely worth bringing back. At The Camera Shop in St. Cloud, we scan film negatives right here in our lab, converting them to crisp, high-resolution digital files you can print, share, or simply keep safe for the next generation. We work with a wide range of formats, including 35mm, 110, 120, 620, 4×5, and 8×10 — so no matter what you bring in, we can handle it. Your originals stay with us the entire time, carefully handled by our trained archiving team. Ready to see what's on those old rolls? We'd love to help. Looking to develop fresh film too? 35mm film negatives with date and number markings — The Camera Shop St. Cloud, MN

Most 35mm negatives are already in strips, making them easy to load and scan — often yielding images people haven't seen since the roll was developed.

Each individual frame counts as one scan. We use Digital Ice technology on 35mm and 120 film to remove dust, scratches, and fingerprints automatically.

We handle a wide range of formats beyond 35mm — including 110, 120, 126, and large format sheet film. Not sure what you have? Bring it in and we'll identify it.

How It Works:

35mm negatives are considered standard. All other sizes are considered non-standard and additional charges apply. 35mm and 120-size negatives are scanned using Digital Ice technology which removes most scratches, fingerprints and dust. Our expert technicians correct the exposure and color of each negative for optimal images. Choose from three resolution options: standard, high resolution, and super resolution. (If you plan to produce enlargements from any of the scans, the higher resolution scans will produce sharper results.)

How to prepare your negatives for scanning:
  • If you have sleeved negatives, we will scan the entire strip unless you mark frames to skip.
  • Each frame is considered to be one scan.
  • Avoid touching the negatives, and never adhere anything directly to the negative, on either side, as the adhesive will show in the scan.
  • We check all negatives for the proper orientation and emulsion before scanning, so you do not need to worry about this in the preparation stage.

We keep your treasures safe and local.

We never recommend shipping away family archives, treasured photos, and irreplaceable home movies. It's too risky. The Camera Shop + The Print Refinery has been professionally preserving memories with archiving and scanning services in the St. Cloud, Minnesota area for over 40 years.
